Lights in the dark~

"In the dark stand candles three,
Thinking there are others that would light up for me,
But greedy for candles; clearly I was not,
Happy for the few which shone brightly and hot"

"Then in the dark there stood two,
Convincing myself such people standing firm and true,
Those who left meant no ill will I knew,
Still I was happy although remaining are few"

  
"Without warning only one remain,
Lit alone in the darkness with none sharing the pain,
And still alone the candle struggles to shine,
Acquaintances or friends now a blurred out line"

"So the question is this which I ask if its fair,
To pull the covers up deterring darkness and despair,
For should the last candle go out in smoke,
The previous candles seem like a mockery; a joke"
